General Information Article

Stronger signals for rural
mobile phones.

Kent, UK, July 2005 – Specialising in mobile phone solutions aimed at ensuring wireless signal strength in rural areas of the UK and Europe, MobileBooster.Co.Uk-Ltd ; (www.mobilebooster.co.uk), is offering an unparalleled set of solutions for users who regularly experience the frustration of dropped calls because they are simply too far away from the nearest cellular transmitter (base station).

Whether on holiday in the Scottish Highlands or relaxing in a summer villa in the hills and mountains above Spain’s Costa del Sol, mobile phone users still face the frustrating prospect of not being able to use their phones because they are simply too isolated to receive strong cellular phone coverage - very similar to being out of range of strong TV signals.

Whether trying to speak to your boss, wife or mother, frustrating calls follow a similar and familiar pattern: “Hello…Hello….Hello, can you hear me Mum? Are you there? I can hardly hear you, can you speak up? That’s better…no, still can’t hear you properly…I’ll call you back…”

It’s a scenario being played out by mobile phone users across the globe who will empathise with the above situation and, in most cases, remember clearly when having a strong mobile phone signal would have saved time, money and unnecessary worry. That is without the insult of having to pay for a call of such poor quality!

Yet, with some 85% of the world’s population having no direct access to a fixed telephone line, mobile phone technology is playing a greater role in delivering telephony to isolated and rural communities.

Across the British Isles, for example, an estimated 40,000 mobile phone masts service a market of over 55 million mobile phone subscribers, providing coverage and signal to around 92% of the population, depending on which mobile operator is making the claim. However, what of the remaining eight per cent? ( That is some 5 million plus including rural and urban black spots).

For these people coverage remains poor, due to low signal strength. They may be rural dwelling farmers, or people living in mountainous areas of Wales or Scotland. When leaving urban centres to make the journey homeward, signals often drop away, leading to the classic ‘dropped calls’ when driving.

Eventually, no calls can be made or received. No bars appear on the phone and users typically give up. No more mobile coverage.

Nevertheless, it does not have to be that way with technology available to ensure good signal strength and to deliver calls that would otherwise not get through. Cellular enhancement is the technique of ‘boosting’ very weak mobile phone signals.

Mobile users can now invest in their own enhancement solutions from Mobile Booster UK Ltd (www.mobilebooster.co.uk), which offers a range of products to ensure users never again have trouble receiving or making calls, no matter where the are.

Small, discrete aerials that can be mounted externally at home or at work and are very safe and reliable, enable users to connect one mobile phone via a cable and boost the signal. Environmentally, such individual solutions negate any future need for one of the network operators to install a cellular mast in an area, always controversial and, for some, a worrying issue.

Mobile Booster’s range of product offers simple-to-use and cost-effective systems that can be used while travelling or at home/at work, to deliver a continuity of reception that we have come to expect. Even in areas where there appears to be no signal available on your mobile phone, there is actually an 85% chance a weak signal is available. Using a MobileBooster solution - problem over.

Even in urban areas…
A huge percentage of people live and work in urban areas, and this encourages the 550 or so network operators around the world to locate masts and services accordingly. This means that if a user is based in an area with an inherently low population it is likely they will receive a lesser service than their urban neighbours - but they will still be paying the same tariffs!

However, even in the city some locations can be in need of a signal boost. Radio signals can be affected by many issues, including, tall buildings and changing landscapes. This factor alone can mean that even if a mobile user resides or works in certain parts of a big city they may still be unable to receive a satisfactory service due to what are commonly referred to as ‘Black Spots’.

Operators typically ‘fill in’ network black spots by erecting more masts and infrastructure, but with the portfolio of cellular enhancement solutions offered by Mobile Booster from some of the leading names/brands in the industry, users can solve their own coverage problems without waiting years for operators to get around to solving the problem for them – often with a new mast no one wants, anyway.

SUMMARY on HEALTH & MOBILE PHONES.

There has been extensive research into the effects on health by using Mobile Phones and other Radio Technologies. This has been mainly over the last six to eight years. Some of the most relevant and respected are listed below for those requiring detailed information.

The research has covered almost every aspect of the business. The results have been reflected globally throughout the relevant industries. Emissions reduced (SAR rating), laws on driving and speaking on a mobile phone, criteria’s and monitoring processes laid down for current and developing technologies.
Both Governments are Scientist have driven and responded to the public request for more information; all parties involved, including the industry have responded.

People with particular dis-orders are still of concern, due mainly to the short period over which results have been gathered. From a Scientific prospective, this is not an adequate period to produce definitive results. Therefore scientifically, there must be doubts and concerns. Yet generally, the results are deemed favorable and the technology accepted as safe. As long as those guidelines are adhered to and future technology closely monitored. That appears to be happening on all levels, internationally.

As regards Enhancement Systems, it is thumbs up all the way. In principal, they help reduce any risk there may be. When a mobile phone is located within a poor reception area the phone increases it’s output to anything upto 3wts (SAR rating) to improve its ability of reception, while normally functioning around 1 to 1.5.
Therefore, the enhancement system separates and protects the individual from the cranked up output. So, unless you are standing next to the aerial you are going to be well within the currently accepted output range (SAR rating).
Older mobile phones used to generate far higher outputs; beware of this.

TO SUMMARISE; MOBILE PHONES AND MASTS ARE CURRENTLY DEEMED SAFE BY THE VAST MAJORITY OF OFFICIAL BODIES AND RESPECTED INVESTIGATION. THERE IS CAUTION AND AREAS OF CONCERN THAT ARE STILL WAITING FURTHER AND FUTURE RESULTS BUT WITH THE NUMBER OF MONITORING BODIES NOW LOOKING AT THE INDUSTRY THE SITUATION APPEARS WELL UNDER CONTROLL.
